Ailsa Black

Scottish artist Ailsa Black works from a seaside studio in the tiny village of Carsethorn in Dumfries and Galloway. From the modest studio at the top of her house, she observes and depicts village life, drawing inspiration from the birds, animals and countryside surrounding her. Ailsa's partner Alan and their failed sheepdog, Jack, also make regular appearances in her charming paintings. Ailsa's art celebrates the purest and deepest joys in life, those cherished moments of quiet companionship when the world seems at peace. In her free time, you will find Ailsa riding her bicycle around the quiet, local roads or rambling with Jack for miles up in the hills or along the shore to discover peaceful, quiet places. Here she watches the passing birds and animals, imagining conversations between them. It is this enjoyment of the happiness and simplicity of the good things in life which she then shares with you through her colourful and uplifting art.
