Clare Sykes

Clare Sykes is an internationally published artist, whose innovative florals are characterised by three main elements – texture, passion and expressive free movement. Painting predominantly in acrylics before adding inks and oil, Clare builds it up into an image with great vibrancy and depth. She leaves the paint to flow freely, before manipulating it to create layers so that it can evolve naturally into the final image. Clare works from her home studio, always in silence as complete serenity is an essential ingredient of her creative process. The outside world may be full of noise and colour, but she prefers to be cocooned in her studio, alone with her imagination, emotions and paints. Despite being based in the studio, Clare's experience in the outside world feeds into her work, particularly the many years she spent living in the Mediterranean which influences her use of colour. She describes her work as part of herself expressed on canvas. “It represents a happy place I've found for myself to share with everyone else. Artwork frees your mind and imagination to fly. It’s shared emotions; the essence of who you are.”
