Mike Edwards

Brighton based Mike Edwards is one of the pioneers of Contemporary Typographic Art. Mike graduated from Birmingham Institute of Art & Design in 1989 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. He is well-known for creating celebrity portraits made up of text. Creating each letter in a separate colour, he positions the type so that when viewed from a distance the individual letters merge to form an image. Mike's pieces draw inspiration from contemporary media, art history, Pop Art, classical painting and Rock and Roll and he describes his work as an exploration of the intersection between the written word and the visual image.
