Mary Donald

Mary Donald was raised by an art teacher and a graphic designer and was encouraged from an early age to draw, paint and create daily. After studying History of Art with Spanish at Exeter and Salamanca Universities, Mary embarked on her art career working at Christie’s Fine Art Auctioneers, St James’s, London. Here, figurative works such as Lowry and Hockney cast their spell over Mary, inspiring her to fill sketchbooks based on the London art and fashion scene around her. Relocating to Devon with her young family shifted Mary’s focus to the beach, which she cites as the number one muse for her artwork. Mary can be found most days walking along the beach with Bonnie, her beautiful Golden Retriever, gathering inspiration for her next painting. Mary is interested in observing daily life at the beach, the quality of light, and the impact of bright colour along its shoreline and is passionate about capturing the good feelings of being at the seaside, hoping that this feeling rubs off onto the viewer. Mary sells her joyously playful artwork both in the UK and internationally and has gained an avid following of collectors over recent years.
